OCD therapy

Brittany Webb

Hi, I’m Brittany Webb, a licensed therapist and founder of Better Minds Counseling & Services, providing online therapy in New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. I specialize in helping adults navigate anxiety (panic, phobias, general anxiety), OCD, and relationship stress. My focus includes all subtypes and forms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), such as: checking OCD, contamination OCD, harm OCD, perfectionism (“just right”) OCD, perinatal OCD, Pure O, relationship OCD, religious or scrupulosity OCD, and sexual orientation OCD. When it comes to anxiety, OCD, and relationship stress, my goal is to help you unstress your life and get to the confident you.

Using evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP or ExRP), I help clients reduce anxiety, break free from compulsions/unserving habits, and reconnect with their values.

In addition to individual therapy, I offer clinical consultation and licensure supervision for therapists seeking specialized training in anxiety and OCD treatment. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to build a life that feels like yours again.

  • Anxiety can feel like your mind is always one step ahead: worrying, overthinking, replaying, or predicting what could go wrong next. It shows up as racing thoughts, tension in your chest, trouble sleeping, or the constant feeling that you “should be doing more.”

Therapy for anxiety helps you slow down those racing thoughts, untangle the “what ifs,” and learn how to feel more grounded and in control. Through evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), you’ll build tools to quiet the noise, manage stress, and respond to anxiety in healthier, more compassionate ways. Whether it’s

    • social anxiety,

    • panic attacks,

    • phobias,

    • perfectionism, or

    • general overwhelm,

therapy gives you the space to understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and start feeling like yourself again.

  • OCD isn’t just about being neat or organized, it’s the endless loop of unwanted thoughts and the pressure to do something to feel “just right.” It can look like checking things over and over, replaying conversations, or worrying that your thoughts mean something bad about you.

OCD is fueled by anxiety and uncertainty, not who you are. Therapy for OCD helps you break free from that cycle. Using proven treatments like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), you’ll learn how to face intrusive thoughts without giving in to compulsions and regain a sense of control over your life. Whether it’s checking, contamination, harm, religious (scrupulosity), relationship, or Pure O, therapy offers practical tools and compassionate support to help you quiet the noise, rebuild trust in yourself, and feel more at peace in your own mind.

With treating OCD, you will never be told to do anything the therapist wouldn’t do also. You also will not “dive in the deep end”. Instead, your therapist will help you gradually build up the trust and confidence to face these uncertainties and fears.

  • Relationships can be one of the best parts of life… and also one of the hardest. Whether it’s tension with a partner, ongoing conflict with family, feeling drained by friendships, or struggles to set boundaries at work, relationship stress can leave you feeling anxious, resentful, or unsure of where you stand. It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed when the people you care about most also become your biggest source of stress.

In therapy, we’ll take a closer look at what’s happening beneath the surface; the patterns, expectations, and emotions that might be keeping you stuck. Maybe you find yourself people-pleasing, walking on eggshells, or replaying conversations in your head. Or maybe you feel disconnected and unsure how to express what you need without guilt or fear of rejection. Together, we’ll work on understanding your needs, improving communication, and building healthier ways to relate to others, starting with how you relate to yourself.

This isn’t about blaming anyone (or yourself for that matter) or dissecting every argument. It’s about helping you feel grounded, clear, and confident in your relationships. You’ll learn how to navigate conflict with more balance, recognize red flags, and set boundaries that protect your peace without losing your compassion.

You deserve relationships that feel supportive, mutual, and safe, and therapy can help you create that foundation.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is about learning to make peace with your thoughts instead of getting stuck fighting them. If you’ve ever felt like your mind is running the show, constantly judging, worrying, or replaying the past.

ACT helps you step back and notice those thoughts without letting them take control. It’s not about ignoring pain or forcing positivity; it’s about creating space for what matters most, even when discomfort shows up. In therapy, you’ll learn skills to handle difficult emotions, untangle from unhelpful thinking, and take meaningful actions that align with your values. ACT therapy helps you live a fuller, more authentic life, one guided by what truly matters, not by fear or avoidance.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected; and how small shifts in one can lead to big changes in the others. If you’ve ever caught yourself spiraling with “what ifs,”feeling stuck in negative thinking, or reacting in ways you don’t fully understand, CBT offers a structured way to break that cycle. In therapy, you’ll learn how to challenge unhelpful thoughts, identify patterns that fuel anxiety or depression, and build healthier coping skills.

CBT is an evidence-based approach proven to help with anxiety, OCD, depression, and stress, giving you tools you can use long after sessions end. With guidance and practice, you can start to feel more in control of your mind, your emotions, and your day-to-day life.

CBT is also great for habit reversal or even to start new ones!

  • If you’ve ever felt trapped in your own thoughts, like worrying about what might happen or feeling like you have to do something to feel safe or “just right”, I’ve heard this many times from my clients… It’s exhausting, and it starts to take over your life. That’s where Exposure and Response Prevention, or ERP/ExRP, comes in.

ERP is a highly effective therapy for OCD and anxiety (including panic and phobias) and even when you want to challenge your fears. Together, we gently face the situations or thoughts that trigger your anxiety, while learning how to respond differently, without doing the things that temporarily ease the fear but keep the cycle going. Over time, this helps your brain learn that you can handle discomfort and that anxiety naturally fades on its own. You get trust in yourself back.

You won’t ever be pushed into something you’re not ready for. We move at a pace that feels manageable for you. If intrusive thoughts make you doubt yourself, we’ll explore them safely and compassionately, helping you see they don’t define who you are.

ERP isn’t easy work, it’s empowering work. The goal isn’t to erase anxiety, but to help you live freely again; spending less time managing fear and more time living the life you want.

More About Brittany

  • approachable, empathetic, genuine

  • I found a fascination for psychology in high school. While navigating how to apply the principles I was learning... it clicked! I enjoy helping others and found that making connections and building relationships helped others work through and navigate the stressors they are experiencing, the challenges blocking their path, and just wanting another person and perspective.

  • Depending on what we are working on, I bring in my skills as a trained therapist using ACT, CBT, or even Exposure Therapy (ERP / ExRP).

I might created shared documents where we can visually see things we are working on. I know seeing helps me. For instance with OCD and implementing exposure therapy techniques, I will create a working document to work through situations causing fear and distress. Each step will outline what to focus on and you will see how the distress and fear decreases over time.

  • I bring warmth and curiosity. I will be with you and challenge you but also help bring in skills that you can use in and out of therapy.

I will show up and engage in the therapeutic process to get you where you want to be. I am a driven individual, and I bring that into therapy.

  • Great question, I enjoy quite a few. A classic breathing technique is always good (I am one who does not like box breathing as holding the breath can cause more stress than regulation). I like 5-7 breathing.

My favorite is the letter-writing technique.

  • As we start working together, you may notice other things come up like anxiety showing up at work or relationships and not just with you. You might want to talk about taboo topics... whatever it is, I am here to listen, explore, and get you to your goal.
