My Experience in the Mental Health Field
I’ve been working in the mental health field since 2011 and have had the opportunity to see how services, systems, and leadership function across many different settings. My career has included working directly with children, adolescents, and adults navigating a wide range of mental health concerns.
Over the years, I’ve held roles across both clinical and leadership positions, which has given me a broad understanding of how mental health organizations operate from direct client care to program development and management.
My experience includes working in:
Community mental health programs
Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS/IBHS) in Pennsylvania
Group homes supporting individuals with traumatic brain injuries (TBI)
A mental health technology start-up
Residential treatment programs serving individuals with dual diagnoses (IDD and mental health)
Starting a self-pay private practice and converting into a group practice
Throughout my career, I’ve also stepped into leadership and teaching roles, including working in middle management, serving as a clinical supervisor, and teaching as an adjunct professor.
Today, I am the founder of Better Minds Counseling & Services, where I lead a growing team of therapists providing therapy, consultations, supervision, and workshops.
Having worked across multiple levels of the mental health field, from frontline clinician to program leadership and practice owner, gives me a unique perspective when supporting therapists who want to build, grow, or strengthen their own private practices.
My goal in consultation is simple: to share the lessons, systems, and insights I’ve gained so that other therapists can build practices that are both sustainable and fulfilling.

Private Practice Consultation for Therapists
Grow a Practice That Supports Both Your Clients and Your Life
Starting or growing a therapy private practice can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Many therapists are excellent clinicians but were never taught the business side of running a practice. Seriously, there was no grad class on business and how to run your own private practice.
Private practice consultations give therapists the opportunity to receive guidance, structure, and real-world insight from someone who understands both the clinical and operational side of mental health care.
Whether you're launching your first private practice, transitioning from agency work, or seeking help with managing a growing therapy team, consultation can help you avoid common mistakes, build sustainable systems, and create a practice that aligns with your professional values.
At its core, private practice consulting is about helping therapists build a business that works—not just financially, but personally and professionally.
Why Private Practice Consultation Matters
Therapists are trained to help others navigate uncertainty, but when it comes to building a practice, many clinicians are left figuring things out alone.
Private practice consultations provide a supportive space to explore questions such as:
How do I start a therapy private practice?
How do I attract the right clients?
How do I set fees or decide between insurance and private pay?
How do I manage burnout while running a business?
How do I scale from solo practice to group practice?
How do I manage therapists as I am empathetic yet need to run a business?
Rather than relying on trial and error, consultation offers intentional guidance grounded in real-world experience.
For many therapists, consultation shortens the learning curve and helps transform ideas into a clear path forward.
Who Private Practice Consulting Helps
Private practice consultation can support therapists at many stages of their professional journey.
Therapists Starting a Private Practice
If you're in the early stages of building a practice, consultation can help you establish a strong foundation. Topics often include business setup, marketing basics, systems for documentation, and understanding your niche.
Therapists Transitioning from Agency Work
Moving from an agency or hospital setting into private practice requires a shift in mindset. Consultation can help clinicians navigate the financial, ethical, and logistical differences between employment and practice ownership.
Solo Practice Owners
Many therapists eventually realize they want more structure, clearer workflows, or guidance around sustainability. Consultation can help refine systems, marketing strategy, and work-life balance.
Therapists Expanding into a Group Practice
Scaling a practice introduces new questions around hiring, leadership, compensation structures, and maintaining clinical quality. Consultation can help you navigate growth thoughtfully.
Common Areas Addressed in Private Practice Consultation
Private practice consulting is flexible and tailored to your goals. Some common topics include:
Starting a Therapy Private Practice
Learn the key steps involved in launching a practice, including business structure, compliance considerations, and early growth strategies.
Finding and Attracting Clients
Explore ethical marketing strategies, niche development, referral network building, and how therapists can increase visibility online.
Building Sustainable Systems
Private practice requires systems that support scheduling, documentation, finances, and communication. Consultation can help therapists streamline these processes.
Setting Fees and Financial Strategy
Many clinicians struggle with pricing therapy services. Consultation can help therapists develop fee structures that reflect their expertise while supporting financial sustainability.
Avoiding Burnout as a Practice Owner
Owning a private practice can blur the line between clinician and business owner. Consultation provides space to develop boundaries, create manageable workloads, and maintain professional fulfillment.
Scaling and Leadership
For therapists considering hiring clinicians or interns, consultation can help clarify the operational and leadership aspects of group practice ownership.
What Makes Private Practice Consultation Valuable
One of the most valuable aspects of consultation is perspective.
Running a practice alone can make every decision feel high-stakes. Consultation offers a place to talk through ideas, ask questions openly, and receive feedback from someone who understands the unique challenges therapists face.
Private practice consulting is not about telling you what your practice should look like. Instead, it helps you clarify what kind of practice you want to build and how to move toward that vision.
This collaborative process often helps therapists feel more confident in their decisions and more aligned with their professional goals.
Benefits of Private Practice Consulting
Therapists who engage in consultation often experience benefits such as:
Greater clarity around business decisions
Faster progress toward practice goals
Increased confidence in marketing and visibility
Improved systems and workflows
Stronger professional boundaries
Reduced feelings of isolation as a practice owner
Private practice can be incredibly rewarding, but it does not have to be built alone.
Consultation provides the opportunity to learn, reflect, and grow alongside someone who understands the unique intersection of therapy and business.
A Supportive Space for Therapists Building Their Practice
Private practice consulting is not just about business strategy. It is also about supporting therapists as they step into leadership roles within their profession.
Many clinicians carry a strong sense of responsibility toward their clients and their work. Consultation provides a space to explore challenges openly, reflect on professional growth, and develop a practice that feels both sustainable and meaningful.
Therapists deserve support too.
